A DD 214 Form, Report of Separation (Discharge and Separation Documents) or DD 215 (upgrade) contains information normally needed to verify military service for benefits, retirement, employment and membership in veterans' organizations.
The VA does provide disability compensation (pay) monthly tax-free to Veterans who got sick or injured while serving in the military and to those whose service made an existing condition worse.
